Some European Union member states have allegedly given secret tax deals to large multinational companies like Apple, Amazon, and Starbucks in violation of EU rules on state aid. Professor Amedeo Arena will discuss this phenomenon, the jurisprudence surrounding it, and how it fits into a broader trend of favorable tax treatment in exchange for investment.
Amedeo Arena is Associate Professor of European Union Law at the University of Naples “Federico II” School of Law (est. 1224). He has published extensively on the European Tax Rulings Saga, has reported on it to the New York City Bar Association, and has given talks on the topic at several law schools in Europe and in the US, including Chicago, Fordham, Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, and the College of Europe (Bruges).
