Gender and Judging

Questions will include how gender affected their careers and work as judges, and how the law of various jurisdictions engages with gender.

Panelists will include The Honorable Rosie Silberman Abella, Former Justice, Supreme Court of Canada; The Honorable Prof. Dr. Susanne Baer, Federal Constitutional Court of Germany; The Honorable Daphne Barak-Erez, Supreme Court of Israel; The Honorable Marta Cartabia, Former President of the Constitutional Court of Italy and current Minister of Justice; The Honorable Nancy Gertner, Retired Judge, United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts; The Right Honorable the Baroness Brenda Hale of Richmond, Former President, Supreme Court of the U.K.; The Honorable Daniela Salazar Marín, Constitutional Court of Ecuador; and The Right Honorable Dame Helen Winkelmann, Chief Justice, Supreme Court of New Zealand.

This event will be moderated by Judith Resnik, Arthur Liman Professor of law and Chair of the Global Constitutionalism Seminar. It will be open to the wider Yale community.
