Negotiation for Lawyers Workshop: Session II

Feb. 22, 2024
1:00PM - 4:00PM
Baker Room 124
Open to the YLS Community Only

The best lawyers are leaders and problem-solvers who can transform a negotiation from a wrestling match to a collaboration. If you aspire to be one of them, this experience is for you.

Negotiation for Lawyers is a three-day interactive workshop led by Kathy Holub '95 from Harvard Law School, highlighting principles and skills every negotiator needs to master. Session I: Will introduce students to a conceptual framework they can apply to any negotiation – one they can use in any legal, judicial, or academic role they may pursue in their careers. A roleplay exercise will bring the framework alive and explore the question: What is a good outcome?

Session II: Students will deepen their study with a more challenging roleplay, exploring such questions as: How do I know what's fair? How can I avoid haggling? How can I reach a good deal for both sides?

Session III: Will focus on communication skills essential to effective problem-solving and strong relationships.

The workshop is limited to 20 participants in each morning or afternoon session. If there is excess demand, we will keep a waitlist and inform you should space open up.

This workshop is an integrated series that builds with each day. Session I is a prerequisite, and attendance is required in order to attend Sessions II or III. If you are unable to attend Session II or III due to a scheduling conflict, please email us at yls.leadership@yale.edu. These workshops are open to YLS students only.
