International Law Programs at Yale

Yale and the World
International programs and activities may be found in all of the schools of the University. Yale and the World offers a comprehensive directory of programs that might be of particular interest.

The World Fellows Program
Each year, the World Fellows Program brings to Yale University 16 to 18 highly accomplished men and women from a diverse set of countries around the world. The Program offers a group of emerging leaders the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, gain new perspectives, sharpen their skills, and build the networks of relationships needed to meet the demands of issues on the local, national, and global scales. Yale Law students regularly participate in the World Fellows Program as Associate Fellows and Affiliates.

The Yale Center for the Study of Globalization
The Yale Center for the Study of Globalization supports teaching and research on globalization, helps to enrich debate on the subject through workshops, conferences, and lectures, and responds quickly to important events by organizing timely public programs that bring together individuals from the University community with individuals active in the policy arena. The Center also serves the community by inviting key leaders in international affairs to come to Yale to present major public addresses.

Jackson School of Global Affairs
The Jackson School of Global Affairs is a principal driver of Yale University’s efforts to internationalize its teaching curriculum, to attract the most talented students and scholars to Yale from around the world, and to deepen the University's engagement abroad. Its mission is to institutionalize the teaching of global affairs throughout the University and to inspire and prepare Yale students for global citizenship and leadership.

South Asian Studies Council
The South Asian Studies Council at Yale is committed to promoting a comprehensive understanding of historical and contemporary South Asia, encompassing Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. As part of the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University, the Council seeks to foster lively intellectual exchange from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives by integrating teaching and research on traditional South Asia with contemporary study of the region. The Council provides a forum for student and faculty interaction, both social and intellectual, and promotes South Asian cultural events 

The Yale Africa Initiative
The Yale Africa Initiative is an effort by Yale University to sharpen its focus on Africa. The goals of the Initiative are: to expand scholarship on Africa at Yale; increase the number of African students at Yale while securing support for financial aid for their studies; establish mutually beneficial partnerships between Yale and African institutions. The faculty, students and alumni of Yale university are working closely together to realize the goals of our Africa Initiative.

The Yale Institute for Global Health 
The Yale Institute for Global Health (IGH) was launched in May 2009 to cultivate and support global health activities at Yale. The IGH aims to foster innovative education programs, catalyze interdisciplinary faculty research, and advance international partnerships and leadership in global health. For students, IGH provides coordination among outstanding educational offerings in global health and supports field based programs and internships across the university. For faculty, IGH catalyzes interdisciplinary research and advances international partnerships and leadership in global health. This is accomplished largely through the Global Health Leadership Institute (GHLI), which brings together faculty, policymakers, and practitioners across disciplines to advance research, policy, and practice in global health at Yale and beyond.

The Yale Himalaya Initative
The Yale Himalaya Initiative brings together faculty, students, and professionals across Yale University whose work focuses on the Himalayan regions of Nepal, India, Bhutan, Pakistan, and China, as well as the Tibetan cultural areas that traverse the borders of all those states.

The Yale Iran Colloquim
The purpose of the Iran Colloquium is to bring together specialists of Iran and the Persian cultural sphere (from the Ottoman world to South and Central Asia) in all areas of humanities, social sciences and law in the region and to serve as a forum to discuss new publications, work in progress, new research projects, current affairs and other related issues.

The MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies
The MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies is the University’s principal agency for encouraging and coordinating teaching and research on international affairs, societies, and cultures around the world. The MacMillan Center seeks to make understanding the world outside the borders of the U.S., and America’s role in the world, an integral part of the liberal education and professional training at Yale University.

International Security Studies at Yale University
International Security Studies at Yale University (ISS) is a center for teaching and research in grand strategy and international, diplomatic, and military history. ISS is supervised by an international advisory board composed of eminent scholars, business leaders, and journalists. ISS incorporates United Nations Studies at Yale, a policy-relevant “think-tank” on key issues concerning the future of the UN. ISS provides a forum for students to engage in active debate with established scholars, as well as extensive fellowship support to aid them in their research.

European Union Studies
The Yale Program in European Union Studies is devoted to furthering the knowledge of students, faculty, and other members of the Yale community about the European Union. It seeks to promote greater knowledge about, and understanding of, the EU; particular attention is devoted to past, current, and future transatlantic relations between the United States and the European Union.

The Genocide Studies Program
The Genocide Studies Program (GSP) at the Yale Center for International and Area Studies conducts research, seminars, and conferences on comparative, interdisciplinary, and policy issues relating to the phenomenon of genocide, and provides training to researchers from afflicted regions. The Orville H. Schell, Jr. Center for International Human Rights at Yale Law School is a sponsor of the GSP.

The Program on Nonprofit Organizations at Yale University
The Program on Nonprofit Organizations (PONPO) exists to foster interdisciplinary research aimed at developing an understanding of international nongovernmental organizations and the not-for-profit sector in developing countries and their role in economic and political life. PONPO studies foreign and international nongovernmental organizations from many different perspectives.
