Benjamin Gideon ’99 Admitted to the Inner Circle of Advocates

Benjamin Gideon ’99 has been admitted to the Inner Circle of Advocates, an invitation-only, national organization of plaintiff attorneys. The Inner Circle limits its membership to no more than 100 of the top plaintiff trial lawyers in the nation.  Gideon is only the second lawyer in Maine history to be invited to join this group.

Membership in the Inner Circle is limited to “attorneys of exceptional qualifications who are respected among their peers and who are experienced and skillful in the handling of courtroom litigation.” Selection is based on a careful evaluation of an attorney’s experience, reputation, judicial references, and peer evaluations.

In inviting attorney Gideon into the organization, Inner Circle President, Joseph Power, Esq., a renowned trial lawyer based in Chicago, Illinois, wrote that judicial and peer reviews described attorney Gideon’s “excellent judgement” and “extraordinary oral advocacy skills.” Power further noted that “Although only 47, Ben has become a dominant trial attorney not only in Maine, but regionally.”

“It is an incredible honor to be invited to this amazing group of trial lawyers,” Gideon said. “Members of this group are responsible for some of the most important and ground-breaking trial victories in U.S. history, including automobile defect, pharmaceutical and tobacco litigation, which have not only resulted in landmark victories for their individual clients, but changed entire industries in ways that make us all healthier and safer. I look forward to collaborating with the lawyers in this group.”

Since joining the law firm Berman & Simmons in 2003, Gideon has tried cases successfully to juries in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont and has developed expertise across a broad range of case types, including personal injury, medical malpractice, civil rights, products liability, nursing home, toxic and environmental torts and other complex civil litigation. Gideon achieved a $22.5 million jury verdict for a client that was one of the top 100 verdicts nationwide. A Maine native Gideon is a graduate of Cornell University and Yale Law School.

There will be a formal induction ceremony into the Inner Circle in August in Ireland.
