Jeffrey Steinborn ’68 Receives President's Award from WACDL

The Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (WACDL) is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Steinborn ’68 LL.B. received the 2016 President’s Award. The award was presented at Campbell’s Resort in Chelan, Washington on June 10. The President’s Award recognizes “achievement in a particular case or series of related cases, or long-time service to the criminal defense bar.”

Seattle attorney Jeffrey Steinborn is being recognized for his leadership in drug and forfeiture defense as well as his many years of service to WACDL. Steinborn is a former committee chair and a contributing author to Washington Criminal Defense magazine. He has been a frequent continuing legal education speaker and as well as a speaker at political events where the war on drugs is discussed.

Steinborn also lectures and writes on search issues—he believes there is a suppression issue somewhere in every search and enjoys sharing his ideas with any lawyer who calls to inquire.

Steinborn graduated from the University of Washington in 1965 and the Yale Law School in 1968. After working at MacDonald, Hoague and Bayless for a few years, a brief term at the Prison Legal Service Project, and a sabbatical to the South Pacific, he has practiced law from his office in Seattle. Starting with a few years representing conscientious objectors and other war resistors, he was then drafted as a soldier in the war on drugs. For the last 48 years he has been representing victims of that war along with other targets of government excess.

The Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers was formed to improve the quality and administration of justice. WACDL has over 900 members—private criminal defense lawyers, public defenders, and related professionals—committed to preserving fairness and promoting a rational and humane criminal justice system.
