On Oct. 31, the Solomon Center for Health Law & Policy, Yale Health Law and Policy Society(link is external)4, and YLS Career Development Office hosted a 1L Summer Jobs in Health Law Panel to introduce first-year law students to summer employment opportunities in health law. The discussion was moderated by Indu Pandey ’26 and featured four students who spent one of their summers working in health law:

  • Laura Bairett ’26 spent her 1L summer working for both the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C.
  • Alyshia Laidlaw ’26 spent her 1L summer working at Goodwin Procter LLP in Boston, Mass.
  • Hannah Berkman ’26 spent her 1L summer at the New York Office of the Attorney General working for their Special Counsel for Reproductive Justice.
  • Daniel Lu ’25 spent his 2L summer at the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law.

The four panelists shared their perspectives on the application process, interviewing, work assignments, and overall experience at their employers. Attendees were able to see the wide variety of health law positions available for students and understand the differences between opportunities in the public (state and federal), private, and nonprofit sectors.

With summer job application season approaching for first-year law students, the panel aimed to equip those interested in health law positions with the tools they need to succeed in finding their dream summer job.
