Professor Pablo Ruiz-Tagle Elected Dean of University of Chile

Professor Pablo Ruiz-Tagle has been elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Chile.

Professor Ruiz-Tagle will lead the Faculty of Law of the University of Chile for the 2018-2022 term after obtaining the highest amount of votes during an election process.

After the results were confirmed, the Dean-elect expressed his humble appreciation to the professors of the faculty for their support, pointing out that the “percentage of support that I received is a clear demonstration that there is an important group of professors who support this project to build a better faculty.”

Professor Ruiz-Tagle also sent a “message of tranquility” to the law school community expressing his hope that with his deanship will bring, “four years of peace, four years of work, of seeking excellence, and respecting diversity."

“Respecting each other where our opinions diverge and looking for ways to give the best of ourselves so this faculty can become even greater and be the school that has honored our country throughout its republican history,” added Ruiz-Tagle.

Ruiz-Tagle is a graduate of Yale Law School, LL.M. ’88, J.S.D. ‘95, and member of the Seminario en Latinoamérica de Teoría Constitucional y Política (SELA) at Yale Law School. SELA is an annual academic gathering which brings together scholars from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the United States. Each year participants discuss a selection of papers written for the seminar that reflect a set of themes determined by the faculty directors and representatives from partnering universities.
