Professor Peter Dutton Joins Paul Tsai China Center as Senior Fellow
Yale Law School’s Paul Tsai China Center is thrilled to announce the appointment of Peter Dutton, previously Professor of International Law at the U.S. Naval War College, as a Senior Fellow and Senior Research Scholar at the Center. Prior to joining the Center, he also served as interim dean of the Center for Naval Warfare Studies, as director of the China Maritime Studies Institute, and as professor of joint military operations. In addition, he was an Adjunct Professor at the NYU School of Law for the last decade. He is also a retired U.S. Navy Commander.
Dutton is one of our country’s leading researchers, writers, and advisors on international law of the sea and air, with an emphasis on the East and South China Seas. His additional research interests include Chinese views of sovereignty and international law, international law and Taiwan, and the strategic implications of China’s maritime expansion. His work at Yale Law School’s Paul Tsai China Center will continue to address all of these subjects.
Dutton holds a Ph.D. in war studies from King’s College London, a J.D. from the College of William & Mary, an M.A. from the U.S. Naval War College, and a B.S. from Boston University.
