Each fall, YLS offers a one-day workshop—affectionately called “Moot Camp”—for alumni and fellows who plan to enter the U.S. law teaching market that year. The program gives several candidates an opportunity to moot their job talks, and features discussions with faculty about the hiring process, including negotiating different phases of the interviewing process, presenting work on the market, and responding to job offers.
If you are considering going on the market in the future, we encourage you to participate in Moot Camp as a member of the audience. As a member of the audience, you will be asked to read several workshop papers and to participate with faculty and other participants in mooting their authors. Many alumni report that the experience of audience participation affords insights about the writing and presentation of a job talk paper that are extraordinarily helpful in the year before joining the law teaching market.
