Program in Brazil

The Owen Fiss Latin American Linkage Program's institutional partners in Brazil are the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), FGV Direito in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). USP and UERJ joined Linkages in 2001. FGV-SP joined in 2013 and FGV-Rio in 2016. YLS students in the Brazil program divide their time between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. They have also traveled to Brasilia to observe Supreme Court hearings and meet with government officials there.

Students enrolled in the Law School are invited to apply. The program requires intermediate proficiency in Portuguese, active involvement in the Yale leg of the exchange, and some background reading prior to the trip to become familiar with Brazil's political and legal history and structure. The program begins when classes at our partner schools resume after their winter recess, which usually occurs at the beginning of August. The travel and living expenses of participants are covered by the Yale Law School.

If interested, please contact the program coordinator at bradley.hayes@yale.edu for more information about the program and selection process.
