After the Interview

After the Interview

You may decide to send a thank you email promptly after your interview, particularly if you are very interested in the employer and would like to reiterate that interest; you connected with the interviewer and would like to remind that interviewer of your similar interests; or the interviewer went out of their way for you. Thank you emails are generally not expected in the Northeast, West Coast, and other major cities, and slightly more expected in the Southeast, Midwest, and smaller cities. If you send a thank you email, make sure your message contains no spelling, grammatical, or other errors, as it is another sample of your writing. See Sample Thank You Emails (PDF).

It is reasonable to follow up and inquire about the status of your candidacy around a week or so after interviewing. For more information about the offer and acceptance process, refer to CDO's Responding to Offers advice.
