SUBMIT A MAINTENANCE REQUEST
Building Services supports the day-to-day operation, safety, and functionality of Sterling Law Building and Baker Hall. Our team maintains the physical environment by responding to maintenance issues such as heating and cooling concerns, lighting and plumbing repairs, door and hardware problems, and general building upkeep. We also coordinate custodial services, manage centralized key access, assist with moves and furniture adjustments, support event setups, and oversee mail and delivery operations within the building. Our goal is to ensure that the spaces used by faculty, staff, students, and visitors remain clean, safe, and fully functional so the community’s academic and administrative work can continue without disruption.
From time to time, maintenance work, repairs, and capital projects may impact building operations, including temporary interruptions to utilities or access. Building Services coordinates these efforts to minimize disruption and ensure the safety and comfort of occupants.
Advance notice of scheduled work and any planned outages will be posted on the Building Services Confluence page. Please refer to that page for the most current information, including scope, timing, and any required actions. We encourage all occupants to check the page regularly to stay informed of upcoming impacts.
All keys are centrally managed and issued through Building Services to ensure proper security and accountability across the Law School. Requests for new keys, replacements, or changes to access should be submitted directly to Building Services for review and approval.
All new key requests must be submitted using the Key Requisition Form
Please note that a $75 fee will be charged for each lost key. To avoid charges and maintain building security, keys should not be duplicated, shared, or transferred between individuals. All keys remain the property of the Law School and must be returned upon request or at the end of occupancy.
Temporary office space is available for short-term needs such as visiting faculty and lecturers, staff transitions, or project-based assignments. All space allocations, both temporary and permanent, are managed centrally to ensure efficient and equitable use of the Law School’s facilities.
To request temporary or permanent office space, please submit your request via email with details on the anticipated duration, number of occupants, and any specific needs. Requests will be reviewed and accommodated based on availability and institutional priorities.
YLS does not accept 1st class mail for students. A Post Office Box should be obtained from Yale Station, 206 Elm Street. Packages for YLS students can be received at YLS and should be sent to:

127 Wall Street
New Haven, CT 06511
The YLS mailroom (225B) is located on 2M near the lockers. Hours of operation; Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (closed 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM).
Students receiving packages will be notified by the Law School Mailroom that their package has arrived to SLB. Emails from the carrier (Amazon, UPS, Fedex, etc.) indicating a package has been delivered does not necessarily mean the package is at the building. Please wait to receive the email from the mail room.
If you observe a condition in the building that may impact safety, please report it promptly so it can be addressed. Examples include trip hazards, damaged doors or locks, lighting outages, water intrusion, or other conditions that could pose a risk to occupants.
Use the Building Services request form (via QR code or website) to submit your concern. For urgent or immediate safety issues, please contact Building Services or Security directly.
Your awareness and timely reporting help maintain a safe environment for everyone.
Sterling Law Building and Baker Hall’s central Lost & Found is located in Building Services, SLB 130. Items found in the library are transferred to this location on a weekly basis.
Unclaimed items, such as clothing and water bottles, are donated at the end of each semester. If you are missing something, we encourage you to check in promptly.
Posters and flyers within the building must comply with the Yale Law School poster policy, which outlines where materials may be displayed, size limitations, and general content and posting requirements. In general, postings are limited to designated bulletin boards and approved locations, must meet specific format guidelines, and are subject to removal if not in compliance.
